Do Weekly ‘Member Curated Threads’ Actually Work?

Some forums let members nominate one thread each week that they think deserves attention. It is supposed to encourage people to dig deeper into discussions instead of posting random comments. If you have tried this, did it boost engagement or just create extra moderation work? I am curious about knowing how it plays out in real communities.

I think they can work if members feel their contributions are recognized. I notice letting people choose topics or highlight content boosts engagement and ownership. The main idea is keeping it relevant, varied, and giving credit, so participants feel their input shapes the forum.
