Anyone Tried ‘Story-Based’ Community Activities to Build Connection?

Some admins run ongoing community stories or shared worldbuilding threads to give members a sense of belonging. If you have attempted something like this, did it strengthen the community vibe or fizzle out? I am wondering what formats work best for long-term participation.
