Self Hosting on a VPS

Post by Serene »

Running your forum on a VPS gives independence and flexibility. You can optimize performance and install whatever software you want. It requires server knowledge and regular monitoring, especially for security updates. If you enjoy full control, VPS hosting is rewarding.

Self-hosting on VPS is a whole new level. You get better speed, better security, and full access, which is good. But you must know a lot about Linux and if you don't, you should be ready to watch plenty of YouTube tutorials. 🤣

Yes, VPS can get very technical. Frankly speaking, I have never been on VPS, I have always used Shared Hosting but I have used better packages so that I don't get issues even when the site grows very big.

I like a VPS, but a drawback might be no one-click installers. You might have to be ready to install software by-hand.

And myself, I used a VPS for a long time and had to install WordPress, MyBB etc. by-hand but that wasn't a big deal.
