Should Toxic Users Be Permanently Banned or Rehabilitated?

Post by Serene »

Permanent bans remove disruption but reduce second chances. Rehabilitation can redirect behavior but requires resources. Which approach strengthens long-term culture? How do admins measure successful behavioral change?

I think persistent toxic users who harm the community repeatedly may need permanent bans, but first, giving warnings or temporary suspensions with guidance can sometimes help them adjust. Rehabilitation works best when the user shows willingness to change, otherwise, protecting the community comes first.

It is not the duty of a moderator or even a community owner to try and rehabilitate someone who is toxic. The only thing that you're supposed to do is to make the community rules and regulation very clear to the toxic member and if they are not willing to adjust to the community rule, they should be banned permanently.

It is as simple as that. I can't imagine trying to bend the rules of my forum in order to accommodate a toxic member of the forum. It just doesn't make any sense for me to be doing a lot just to keep a member that I should have banned straight away when I noticed their toxic trait.
