Should New Forums Allow External Links Right Away or Restrict Them?
Early days attract spammers who drop links everywhere. Did you restrict links until members reach a post threshold, or leave them open to avoid discouraging genuine users? What is your which approach to built a healthier early community?
Re: Should New Forums Allow External Links Right Away or Restrict Them?
Allowing external links in a new forum sounds simple, yet it shapes trust and growth. Opening links from day one might encourage resource sharing and expert contributions. However, early unrestricted linking often attracts spammers and low-effort promo posts that damage credibility fast. Many communities choose limited linking until members build history and reputation.

It's going to be a very serious mistake for a new forum to allow external links especially from new members. It's only going to encourage spamming in the community.
